GIGO

15 Mar

Gigo….not just a name….okay….it’s not a name.  It does make me think of the terms we learned for inventory management in business classes — FIFO, FILO and maybe even LIFO or LILO….I don’t remember for sure (maybe explains the C) Anyway — this whole adventure with Made to Crave and the problem with a certain person got me thinking….If I put garbage in my mouth — I don’t feel healthy, I maybe get a little fluffier….and I end up feeling defeated.  So — garbage in = garbage out.  Well how much more true is that of our souls.  If I continue to let the garbage come into my heart and soul — what am I going to put out?  Well it only stands to reason doesn’t it.  So as I continue to need prayers for strength and discernment, I’ll go to the bible more often, I’ll sing praise songs more often and commit to spending time getting to know the God who loves me and will give me the strength to become my best — by putting God In — then God can shine Out.

Made to Crave webcast

22 Feb

I’ve been reading several of Lysa TerKeurst’s books that are just awesome encouragement and teaching about issues women face in their faith.  Her new book is called “Made to Crave” and is on the NY Times best seller list.  She’s been doing a webcast in conjunction with the book and they are re-broadcasting them on demand for the next few Tuesdays. I didn’t get to catch them the first time around and was planning to catch them this time.

For the most part Made to Crave is about struggling with food issues and how they can impact your life — but her overall thinking is that if there is something we turn to for comfort or celebration before we turn to God — we are missing out on a stronger and better relationship with God….

Her writings have really touched me and challenged me — so I’d love to encourage you to check it out.

Love you,
Kristi

Constant Craving

23 Jan

This past weekend I had the privilege of attending the COMPEL women’s conference in Sioux City.  The main reason for attending was to hear the featured speaker, Lysa TerKeurst.  My women’s bible study group had just completed two of her books for our study time (How to be More Than Just a Good Bible Study Girl and What Happens When Women Walk in Faith).  I’m not sure what is the next study for our women’s group as a whole but for me personally I’m starting to work through her newest book (NY Times best seller by the way) “Made to Crave.”  I bought both the book and the participant guide.  I think I’ll be at a slight disadvantage not having the DVD part of the study — but I also think that allowing that to hold me back is just excuse talking.

Lysa’s central idea when she spoke to us — and what I believe that the book covers (beyond just the issue of food) is that when we are turning to something to fill us besides God when we are tired, emotional, sad, happy, alone, discouraged…..and on and on….we are denying ourselves a closer walk and deeper relationship with the living God.

How sobering is that?  For me — astoundingly sobering.  So….I’m going to start walking this journey that is laid out in Made to Crave.  Do I know without a shadow of a doubt that I have issues with food — yep — they are pretty undeniable.  But honestly, if I were to identify what area God would like me to surrender to him — I believe it’s my financial management or more specifically my irresponsible spending habits.  And really on some levels the two go hand in hand….conquering my and my families addiction to fast food will certainly help our bottom line not to mention just our bottoms…..and so….the journey begins.
