Finished Brisingr by Christopher Paolini

5 Nov

Okay — this is a honking big book — 750 pages (paper form) or right around 28 hours of listening time.  Frankly I think some could have been cut or trimmed…..the Dwarf council had parts that were mind numbing….But I think Paolini’s editor is really impressed with her client.  And really he’s a pretty darn good story teller — especially considering his age.  But it’s when he’s dwelling on minutiae that he goes over board and a little restraint would go along way.  Brisingr was supposed to be the final chapter in the Eragon trilogy — however, it’s not done and book four is on the way.  It’s not the best book ever – written or edited – but if you like medieval style stories with magic and dragons — you’ll probably enjoy the book — especially if you’ve followed the series at all.  It’s clear that Paolini is a big fan of JRR Tolkien…..very clear….there are some very similar themes/character types present — but maybe you can say that about most stories….
